On Friday, January 31, 2025, the Tinora boys basketball team faced off against their school rival, Ayersville High School, in an exciting match that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Under the guidance of Coach Kris Lymanstall, the varsity team secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 53-42.

The excitement of the game was amplified during halftime when senior Mary Wachtman delivered her final baton performance. Her grace and talent captivated the audience, marking a bittersweet moment for all who have watched her grow and perform over the years.

Following Mary’s performance, a special moment unfolded as Stone McCann was awarded a scholarship check from Brightspeed. Stone was honored to be selected as the recipient of the Bright Futures Scholarship program, which recognizes high school seniors in rural Ohio who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to their communities.

“We were impressed by Stone’s diverse and longstanding impact on his local community,” said a representative from Brightspeed. “His commitment to the Future Farmers of America program, which he pursued independently of his school or church, showcased his dedication. Stone’s involvement in the National Honor Society, along with his contributions to his school and church, made him an ideal candidate for our scholarship.”

The Brightspeed Bright Futures Scholarship program was launched in 2024 to support promising students like Stone, particularly in rural areas where the cost of college can be a significant barrier. With college costs having more than doubled over the past four decades, and national student loan debt reaching a staggering $1.74 trillion, programs like this are crucial for creating pathways to success for deserving students.

Brightspeed, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., operates in 20 states and provides broadband and telecommunications services through a robust network platform. Its mission is to foster connected communities, and they are dedicated to ensuring that students have the resources they need to succeed.
