THS update from Mr. Spiller
The first quarter has come to an end as has my tenure here at Tinora High School. I would like to thank the students, staff and community for the encouragement and support given to me during this time. My time here at THS has been rewarding and exciting. THS has again excelled in sports with GMC conference championships in Men’s Golf and Lady Rams Volleyball. At this writing, the Lady Rams volleyball team is preparing to take on Eastwood High School at the District finals. In Cross Country, Andrew Ehlers continues his quest to go to the state Cross Country meet after a third place finish at Districts.
We are in the process of updating attendance policies throughout the district to bring Northeastern Local Schools in compliance with House Bill 410. Some changes to the High School policy will take place right away. The new attendance law requires all districts to base attendance on hours rather than days or half-days. Because of this, students missing any part of a high school day will no longer be assessed a full or half-day. Instead, time missed will be based on actual time missed from the school day and will be called a “Partial Day” for reporting purposes.
A student will be considered “Tardy” for reporting purposes until 9:00 A.M. After 9:00 A.M. it will be considered a “Partial” day and recorded according to the time signed in.
An absence during the day will be considered a “Partial Day” and will be reported according to the time signed out and, if student returns, the time the student signs back in.
The district administrators are in the process of updating the remainder of the attendance policy and plan to have one consistent district attendance policy for all buildings. It should also be noted that attendance will not appear on the first quarter grade reports.

ACT TEST PREP TRAINING FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:
Do you want your child to have a better opportunity to earn college scholarships, be accepted in the college or program of their choice? Sylvan Learning Center is willing to partner with Tinora to provide our students with that opportunity. We will be offering a 22 hour ACT training session for students who are juniors, and possibly open it up to seniors and sophomores as well, pending on interest level. To learn more about this opportunity, the school will be sending home a parent letter explaining the details of when these sessions will be available and the possible cost to take the sessions. We invite all sophomore, junior, and senior parents to attend a meeting on Tuesday, November 7 at 6:30-7:30 PM in the high school gym to hear a presentation from the Sylvan Representative. All juniors will take the state required ACT test on February 27, 2018. Call Mr. Siewert or Mrs. Rinkel at 419-497-2126 if you have questions.
